December 29, 2009 we had a super scary experience at the Wal-Mart parking Lot. I decided to run to the store and get a few things for the week, I had two extra kids this week, and we didn't have enough stuff. So I loaded up Avery, Case, Savannah (my niece), & Caleb (my nephew), and we headed off to Wal-Mart. We had an ok time at the store, I got one of those extended carts with the two extra seats up front and got all the kids into it, with Caleb in the infant seat upfront, and then I put the other 3 in the extra children's area. After we got done at the checkout, Avery decided that she didn't want to sit there anymore and got out, and then told her if she was getting out that she needed to hold on to the side of the cart, and she was a good girl and did just that. Well as I walked through the door to exit the store, I looked to see if I could cross the crosswalk going into the parking lot, and I could so I proceeded out and kept looking down at Avery and side to side, well about 1/2 way through I noticed a white car turning the corner and headed right for us, I looked down at Avery and then back up and realized that the Lady in the white car wasn't even looking at us, and she was not going to stop, so I leaped for Avery, (because she was headed right for her), and as I leaped for her I yelled STOP, and I either pushed Avery down, or tried picking her up, either way I was trying to get her out of the way, and just then the White car hit me in the back of the legs, and pinned me between her car & the cart I was pushing just were Avery's head was. I then looked down for Avery and somehow she ended up under the basket part of the cart, laying on her back with her head on the concrete. She was trying to get up, and so I reached down and picked her up, and asked if she was ok, and she said YES, and then I put her down to see if she could walk, and she walked wobble for a few min, and then she walked fine. I thought I saved her from getting hit, but quite a few witnesses said that she did get hit by the car, and that her head slammed against the concrete. The Police & Paramedic's were called and they checked us out and said that Avery didn't have any life threatening injures, but the wanted her to go to the ER to get her head checked, because she had a big ol' knot on the side of her head where her temple is. They asked us if we would like them to transport her, or if we would like to do it. At the time the police was called, I called Glenn who was at the farm which is about 3 mins away, and he came down with Lee and Sharon. Glenn's parents took the other 3 kids home and he took Avery and I to the ER. We took her in, and they admitted both of us, and gave Avery a CT scan. She and I are ok, but we are sore, and achy! I have Whiplash, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Avery is sore and bruised up. We are pretty lucky for what happened to us, and blessed that we didn't have to have a funeral for Avery. We have an Attorney dealing with the her Insurance for us, so we can focus on healing our bruised and sore muscle's, and broken emotion's. I thank the Lord everyday for blessing me with the quick thought process to save my daughter from a horrible death or sad life that she may have had to live. They elderly lady that hit us is 88 years old, and she got her Driving Licence taken away, and she has to go in for full review before she can get it back, which means she has to go and get a Medical and an Eye exam, plus take the written and physical driving test.
Thanks to all of those who has helped us with this, and the prayers you have asked for on our behalf. We needed them and still need them. Please take this as a lesson for all, you never know when it will be the last time you see someone, so please tell your loved ones that you love them, so on that note. I love you and always remember that I think of you often and have an endless love for you. Much Love- Camie
p.s. there are a few pics of some of Avery's injuries below, you really can't see them that well, but it will give you an idea of what was there.
